The pansy usually does not exceed 30 cm in height (it is usually 15 to 25 cm in height), producing flowers that are on average about 6 cm in diameter.

There are cultivars with smaller flowers, measuring 2 or 3 cm, and cultivars with larger flowers, approximately 10 cm in diameter.

Originally from Europe, hybrid pansies appeared in England in the 19th century. They are plants that go by the scientific name of Viola × wittrockiana or Viola tricolor .

Currently, Viola tricolor is little cultivated, unlike the hybrid pansies of this species with other species of the genus Viola, plants that receive the name Viola wittrockiana.

In addition to being beautiful, the flower is also edible (when grown for this purpose).

How to plant pansy?

The pansy can be propagated by seeds, which must be sown superficially in the soil , and can only be covered with a thin layer of sifted soil or substrate.

Germination normally takes one to four weeks. If sown in seedbeds, transplant the seedlings when they have 6 to 8 true leaves.

Another way to propagate the pansy is by dividing well-developed plants , however, the seedlings obtained in this way rarely remain as vigorous as those from seeds.

The recommended spacing for planting in soil is 15 to 30 centimeters.
